When the Melody of Violin is the Mirror of Soul: Ara Malikian Classical Music Star

Ara Malikian’s name being widely unknown among Armenians still deserves a proper recognition among the other names of famous Armenian musicians. His performances meet wide and warm ovations in different cities of many countries representing himself as a world-class violinist with a special style.  

With his reciprocal charm Ara Malikian has assimilated the music of cultures like those of Middle East, Jewish highlighting the melody with Armenian elements. The future megastar appeared with his rich and geographically wide-ranged background. As Ara states:  “I was born in Beirut, 1968. I am a Lebanese - born with Armenian descents. It is a special nationality. We were Armenians living abroad”. 

Armenian descents, Lebanese past and now Spanish present. With an enchanting speed and ease he masters in playing the rhythm of folklore melodies with a new emphasizes. During his childhood parallel with classical music lessons he explored several national folklore songs as well. As a result, he easily combines two various aspects. Over time this became his distinctive feature among the world-class violinists. Nowadays with a wide-ranging repertoire, he plays the majority of all the important pieces written for the violin. 

Creating a special show on the stage the musician combines stunningly performing Arabic, Spanish, Gitans and others with the traditional music of Europe. Among numerous collaborations with several artists the prominent one is with Serouj Kradjian. He plays in duo with Kradjian since 1995, who is also of Armenian origin, with whom he recorded the complete cycle of Sonatas by Robert Schumann and the record “Miniatures”, an exquisite anthology of music for violin and piano. 

Ara Malikian living in Lebanon during the civil war deeply experiencing the needs of elementary simple things, like food, water and electricity clearly understands the importance of a simple assistance. By becoming a famous musician, he started to collaborate with projects aimed at improving the lives of disadvantaged people.

Overall having a huge musician is a way graceful for the Armenian nation and Ara Malikian’s name should be more widely introduced in mass media of Armenia.
