Armenian Musical Event in Istanbul: Performance of the Musical Orchestra

The musical orchestra of the Yerevan cultural center "Narekatsi", which aims at  representing the Armenian national music to the worlds,  on September 6, performed in Turkey, in Istanbul,  and was greeted with  great ovation.

The Creator of the cultural center is philanthropist Narek Harutunyan from New York, a descendant of the Armenians from Aleppo who survived the Genocide. In one of his interviews he talked about the idea of creating the center: "The concept of Narekatsi cultural center was born in New York, the idea came to me: why not to  create an organization which will represent Armenian culture in the way it should be represented?”

Together with the orchestra the well-known Istanbul singer Tatyana Bostan performed, who had released  the album Anadolu'dan Kafkaslar Ermeni Müziği ("Armenian music from Anatolia to the Caucasus") as a part of Grup Knar.

The concert was interesting not only to the Istanbul Armenians: the event was also attended by the Hamshen intellectuals, among whom was Hikmet Akçiçek, the creator of the VOVA group that preserves the musical heritage of the Hamshen Armenians of Turkey, as well as the well-known Hamshen singer Ayşenur Kolivar in Turkey, who shared her impressions on her Facebook page.
